Kerri's Kiss Naturals: Pomade Acne

Having boys my barbershop visits were always an experience. Much respect. Sitting there you see and hear everything. With the guys that patron you get familiar request of a lining, low trim or re-twist. You also notice the guys that suffer from acne "no judgement" however, I have never heard a conversation on pomade acne or how to prevent it.

What is Pomade Acne?

Pomade Acne occurs when some of the pomade that is applied to the scalp is also applied to the forehead and is responsible for the development of multiple, closely packed pimples/bumps close to the hairline.
(Basically, it’s acne on the forehead, temples, and hairline due to the repeated use of pomades. Because of their thick texture, pomades can clog pores, causing whiteheads and blackheads.)

How do you get Pomade Acne?

As pomade acne occurs primarily due to the development of clogged pores, this condition may be able to be prevented in many cases. Hair care products that are water-based are much less likely to cause this issue than those that are oil-based. You can also get it from not washing your hair regularly and removing product build up, if you wear hats not washing the bib, not washing your scarf/ durag, also not washing your brush or pillow case. Pomade acne was first reported in the 1970's but its still relevant today with cases of it seen in both male and female. Yes females! especially if you wear bangs.

How can you get rid of Pomade Acne?

Eliminate the hair care product completely and go for something more water based. Care for the skin by exfoliating with a gentle exfoliate this will remove excess oil from your skin reducing clogged pores.

Tea Tree Scrub will work due to the natural antibacterial properties tea tree oil has which makes it a good alternative to harsh synthetic chemicals. Using the scrub on the skin will unblock and disinfect the pores and dry out whiteheads, blackheads pimples and other blemishes.
